In a show of political unity ahead of a packed legislative agenda, leaders from multiple parties gathered for an all-party meeting convened by the central government on Sunday, ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning July 21 and concluding on August 21. There will be no sittings on August 13 and 14 due to Independence Day celebrations.

Among those in attendance were Congress MPs K Suresh and Jairam Ramesh, Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, Union Minister Anupriya Patel, NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule, and BJP MP Ravi Kishan. Leaders from the Samajwadi Party (SP), YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), Janata Dal (United), AIADMK, CPI(M), and DMK were also present.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MP Mahua Maji raised concerns over the central government’s treatment of Jharkhand, citing a lack of support despite the state’s mineral wealth.

“Jharkhand is a very rich state… but among the three poorest. The Centre is giving step-motherly treatment. We want more support for implementing schemes for farmers and women,” Maji told ANI.

The upcoming session is significant as it will be the first full parliamentary session after Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to the May 7 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where 26 people were killed.

The Monsoon Session is expected to witness the introduction of several key bills, including:

  • Manipur GST (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • Jan Vishwas (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • IIM (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • Geo-Heritage Sites and Geo-Relics Bill, 2025
  • Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025
  • National Sports Governance Bill, 2025
  • National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025

Additional legislation on the agenda includes the Readjustment of ST Representation in Goa Assembly Bill, 2024, Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024, Indian Ports Bill, 2025, and the Income Tax Bill, 2025.

The Budget Session earlier this year began on January 31 and included the passage of notable legislation such as the Waqf Amendment Bill.

With crucial bills lined up and post-Pahalgam national sentiment still fresh, the Monsoon Session is likely to be both legislatively intense and politically charged.
